Dental visits scare me; can you help make me more comfortable?

Occasionally, due to a previous bad experience or outcome, patients can be a little nervous about coming back to the dentist.  We understand your fears, which is why we use the latest in dental laser technology to reduce or eliminate our usage of dental drills, the source of a lot of anxiety for patients.  We also offer a number of choices for relaxation during your dental treatment such as nitrous oxide or “laughing gas,” and halcion sedation.   We have satellite TVs in all of the procedure rooms, neck pillows and blankets, and patients are encouraged to bring their own personal entertainment items, such as ipods and headphones.

How long is your standard office visit?

Most visits are one hour, or slightly less. We know how busy you are, so we do our best to make good use of your time and ours.

What can I expect at my first visit?

During your first visit, we’ll ask you to fill out a new patient form, including a health history to make sure we are aware of any underlying health issues you might have, and we will probably take dental radiographs (x-rays) if you haven’t had them recently.  Finally, we conduct a thorough periodontal evaluation to determine if you have any signs of gum disease, and then we perform a cleaning. The entire first visit process may take 90 minutes.

I’m an adult.  Can I still have braces?

It is never too late to straighten your teeth. The amount of time it takes to successfully complete orthodontic treatment depends more on the severity of your tooth alignment problems, and your compliance with treatment.  The good news is the process is made much easier with the Invisalign system.

My teeth don’t hurt.  Does that mean I don’t have any dental problems?

Many dental problems such as periodontal disease, cracked fillings and root canal issues begin with the patient feeling little or no pain.  As a result, dental problems may go undetected if you wait to feel pain before visiting the dentist.  That’s why regular dental visits are so important.
